COVID-19: Nigeria records 594 new cases as 20 doctors test positive

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said 594 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Thursday June 25.
This is just as it has been reported that no fewer than 20 medical doctors in Bayelsa State have tested positive for the virus.
Also, the NCDC announced that seven deaths were recorded across the federation Thursday.
The 594 new cases were reported as follows: Lagos (159), Delta (106), Ondo (44), FCT (34), Edo (34), Oyo (33), Kaduna (33), Enugu (28), Katsina (25), Imo (22), Adamawa (15), Ogun (12), Osun (11), Abia (8), Rivers (6), Nasarawa (5), Bauchi (5), Niger (5), Kebbi (4), Ekiti (3), Plateau (1) and Taraba (1).
“Till date, 22,614 cases have been confirmed, 7,822 cases have been discharged and 549 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” the NCDC confirmed.
So far only Cross River State is without any case out of the 36 states and FCT of the federation.
The President, National Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa chapter, Dr Ebidimie Divine-Irole, Thursday appealed to the state COVID-19 Task Force to provide adequate Personal Protective Equipment for health workers exposed to coronavirus patients.

She said, “We are appealing for adequate supply of Personal Protective Equipment from the government. We have some but what we have is not enough and our members who have contact with COVID-19 patients are at great risk.
“As we speak, more than 20 doctors have tested positive and this calls for concerted efforts for the COVID-19 response team to see the issue of PPE as a priority.
“We also urge the stakeholders to join forces to strengthen the health sector and combat the pandemic. Frontline medical workers require support and motivation to boost their morale.”
