The COVID-19 global pandemic left its ugly footprint as Nigeria celebrated the historic June 12 Democracy Day, in honour of Chief MKO Abiola, acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 Nigeria’s presidential election.

While President Muhammadu Buhari busied himself, reeling out his achievements and efforts to move the country forward in a national broadcast, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) continued in its mandate to rid the nation of the dreaded coronavirus infection.

At the end of the day, the virus played a tasteless trick on Nigeria, leaving the country with 12 new deaths on June 12, 2020.

The NCDC also confirmed that 627 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the federation, same day.
