Court jails PDP youth leader two years for insulting Buhari

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth leader in Adamawa, Ikamu Hamidu Kato, has been sentenced to two years in prison for insulting President Muhammadu Buhari and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
A chief Magistrate Court on Monday sentenced Kato, PDP’s youth leader in Hong council area, to a year-long prison term for use of abusive words with a N25,000 fine option.
He was also sentenced to year-long imprisonment for inciting public disturbance, with a N25,000 fine option.
Both sentences run concurrently, the chief magistrate Dimas Elishama ruled, according to a report published by Daily Trust.
Kato, 41, described President Buhari and Mustapha as “useless human beings”. He specifically called the SGF a “Bastard and a Dog” in a video he posted on social media on 10th of July, 2021, which went viral.
The Department of State Security had investigated and arraigned him in court through the office of the justice commissioner, for prosecution last Friday.

Kato pleaded guilty.
The court had adjourned the matter to Monday the 2nd August.
On Monday, the prosecution provided two witnesses – a DSS operative Zayyanu Adamu and Husseini Nakura, chairman of Adamawa State Concern Citizen – to testify.
Prosecution also tendered confessional statement of Kato and a USB drive as exhibit.
The presiding judge said that the court had considered the plea of the convict to temper justice with mercy, his conduct during the trial, his apology, and that he will not be left to go scot-free, but be punished to serve as deterrent to others and sentenced him accordingly.
