Buhari sends Dongban-Mensem to Senate for confirmation

President Muhammadu Buhari announced Monday that he had sent the name of Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem to the Senate for confirmation as President Court of Appeal.
The president had in a statement issued May 29, 2020, extended the appointment of Justice Dongban-Mensem for another three months as acting president of the Appeal Court.
Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu said the president’s action was pursuant to Section 238(4) and (5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
Justice Dongban-Mensem was first appointed acting President of the Court of Appeal for an initial period of three months, starting March 6, 2020, following the retirement of Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa who attained the mandatory retirement age of 70, same day.

But today June 8, 2020, President Buhari declared on his Twitter handle: “I have sent the nomination of Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, Acting President, Court of Appeal, to the Senate for confirmation as President, Court of Appeal, in line with the recommendation of the National Judicial Council.”
