Buhari reconstitutes NNPC board as former GMD Maikanti Baru dies

Immediate past Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, is dead.
Malam Mele Kari, the Group Managing Director of the corporation disclosed this on his Twitter handle @MMkyari on Saturday in Abuja.
“My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night.
“He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him,” Kyari tweeted.
The NNPC Group General Manager Corporate Affairs, Dr Kennie Obateru in statement confirmed the death of the ex-GMD.
“The NNPC regrets to announce the demise of its former GMD, Dr Maikanti Kacalla Baru, Friday night.
“Dr. Baru, a consummate Mechanical Engineer, died after a brief illness,” he said
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), after the expiration of the term of the board members appointed in 2016.
Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed this in a statement in Abuja on Saturday.

According to the statement, members of the new Board are: Mohammed Lawal (North West), Tajudeen Umar (North East), Adamu Mahmood Attah (North Central), Senator Magnus Abe (South South), Dr Stephen Dike (South East), and Chief Pius Akinyelure (South West).
“The new board will be in place for three years,” Adesina said.
Baru, 60, who was at the helm of the corporation from July 4, 2016 to July 7, 2019, was born in July 1959 in Misau, Bauchi State.
He attended Federal Government College, Jos for his secondary education where he graduated in 1978.
He obtained his bachelor of engineering degree from Ahmadu Bello University in 1982. Baru has a doctorate in Computer Aided Engineering from the University of Sussex.
