Angry Umahi sacks finance commissioner
Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi

Ebonyi State governor David Umahi, still seething with rage from his unsuccessful outing at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary, has sacked his Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Mr Orlando Nweze.

Nweze’s sack was delivered via indefinite suspension.

The suspension notice was signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Kenneth Ugbala, who made same available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.

Nweze was relieved of his appointment for alleged “inability to discharge his duties effectively”.

The governor directed the former commissioner to handover all government property in his possession to the permanent secretary of the ministry before the close of work on Wednesday, June 15.

“Please, ensure strict compliance to this directive,” the statement read.

Umahi had, since losing the bid to clinch the APC presidential ticket at the June 8 national convention, visited his rage on the APC Southeast delegates and the leadership of the pan-Igbo socio-cultural and political organisation Ohanaeze Ndigbo, for allegedly betraying him and thereby thwarting his presidential ambition.

A brief introduction of the former commissioner on Ebonyi State official website reads thus: “Orlando Okechukwu Nweze, is the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development in Ebonyi State. He is a very pragmatic, young result-oriented and a good manager of resources. Orlando is the pioneer Director, Finance and Administration of South East Governors Forum Secretariat.

“He served the Executive Governor as an SA on Capital City due to his problem solving capacity. He holds a National Diploma in Art and design and a certified leadership expert. In his early practice, he was consulted widely on Social Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) by both local and international organizations.

“OON as fondly called, was a member of the Abakaliki Capital Territory Board and Internal Revenue Service where he led the Tax Operation with several reforms to the credit of his team.”
