Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has tested negative for COVID-19 barely one week after he was confirmed positive for the disease.

Governor Akeredolu in a weekly press briefing on Monday confirmed the development.

He said doctors confirmed his negative status after he was tested twice.

Meanwhile, the governor has appointed Temitayo Oluwatuyi as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) following the resignation of Ifedayo Abegunde, the former SSG

Akeredolu disclosed this via his Twitter handle, saying the appointment was with immediate effect.

“Today, I announced the appointment of Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi “Tukana” as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to resume immediately following the resignation of Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde,” Akeredolu wrote.

Abegunde had confirmed his resignation earlier on today, July 6.

““Yes, it is true, I have resigned my appointment as Ondo State SSG this morning. It is true my brother,” he responded to enquiry.

The letter titled ‘Letter of Resignation Effective 6th July 2020’ read, “I, Hon. Ifedayo Sunday Abegunde, the Secretary to the State Government of Ondo State hereby tender my letter of resignation.

“I want to thank Mr Governor for giving me the opportunity to serve the Government and people of Ondo State.

“Again, my family and I wish Mr Governor quick recovery.”
