AFCON 2019: Nigeria, South Africa qualify, to meet in Quarter finals

Odion Ighalo’s brace along with an Alex Iwobi’s strike helped Nigeria’s Super Eagles see off defending champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 3-2, in a second-round match of the ongoing African Cup of Nations.

Goals from Stephane Bahoken and Clinton Njie saw Cameroon lead 2-1 at half-time after Odion Ighalo had put Nigeria ahead in Alexandria, Egypt.

But two goals in three minutes swung the game back in Nigeria’s favour and ensured a quarter-final placement for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

And in the second Semi-final game, host Egypt ended their campaign for the African trophy on a sad note, losing to the rainbow nation of South Africa.

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana gave a good account of themselves with an emphatic 1-0 win over the Egyptian Pharos, in a game that Liverpool star Mo Salah literally walked alone.

It was Bafana Bafana’s striker Lorch who put the spanner in the wheels of the Pharos chariot with a fantastic chip inside the 36-yard box, five minutes to the end of the game.

Nigeria and South Africa are now going to slug it out in one of the Quarter final games.
