Nollywood actress, Ada Ameh, popularly known as ‘Emu’ in the television series The Johnsons, has died at the age of 48.

Her death was confirmed to the media by the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas.

“It is sad but she is dead, I do not really have the details at the moment,” Rollas was quoted as saying by a media source.

Another source also quoted him as saying: “We lost Ada. No details at the moment, but we’ve lost Ada.”

RELIABLESOURCENG.COM gathered that the actress, who lost a daughter, over 30 years old, in 2020, died Sunday night at a hospital in Delta State.

She reportedly collapsed and eventually confirmed dead at the nearby Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Hospital in Warri, Delta State, where she was rushed, at about 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Sources said she was visiting a family in the Delta metropolis when the incident happened.

It is not yet clear whether an autopsy had been conducted to ascertain the likely cause or causes of the actress’ death.

Ameh had on June 15, 2022 revealed via her verified Instagram account that she had a mental breakdown and was being sued by a firm for not doing a task she was meant to do.

She said: “I have an issue right now and it’s taking my life, but I no go die. We would get over it. I was given a job, but I didn’t do it because I have mental health issues. Will people understand it if you have mental issues? No, they wouldn’t. They are slamming me with a bill, suing me. It’s okay.”

The death of her daughter, Aladi Godgift in October 2020, was said to have shaken her badly that she may have gone into depression. Godgift reportedly died after an unsuccessful surgery at a hospital in Abuja.

Ameh spent over two decades in the Nollywood industry. She played ‘Anita’ in the movie Domitilla in 1996 and she was also recognised for her lead role in the multi-award-winning television comedy series, The Johnsons.
