The Abia State Government has announced the discharge of one of the two index cases of the coronavirus disease recorded in the state.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, according to a tweet by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, disclosed this Friday while addressing the media at Government House, Umuahia.

Ememanka said in his tweet: “One out of the two Abia Index Cases of Coronavirus tests negatively after series of tests and discharged.”

Abia State on April 20, 2020 announced that the state had recorded two cases of coronavirus, the first time the state was getting on Nigeria’s COVID-19 index board, since the outbreak in the country some two months ago.

The two index cases, according to government officials, were said to be “advanced” in their ages.

The state government had been criticised for lack of preparedness and being nonchalant about the global pandemic.

This had prompted the intervention of one of the good-spirited Abia sons and a former gubernatorial candidate, Dr Alex Otti, to donate series of medical equipment, supplies and one isolation centre to four hospitals in the state, including the Federal Government-owned Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia.
