Abducted students, staff of Govt College Kagara released

The 42 students, staff and relatives of the staff who were abducted from Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State, have been released and now in government custody in Minna, state capital.
A total of 27 students, three staff and 12 members of their families were abducted in the attack on the school, in the early hours of Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
In a video, the students were seen filing out from the bush. The footage was said to have been shot around Attahiru Secondary School, Madaka, Niger State.
Jibrin Usman, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education in Niger, said the commissioner had been contacted to receive the boys ahead of their meeting with the governor.
One of the parents of the students revealed that the abductees were released near Madaka in Raffi Local government area of Niger.
The parent said he would withdraw his child from the school immediately, describing that as the only sensible thing to do as a concerned father.

One of the students, Benjamin Doma, who tried to escape when the bandits stormed their hostel was gunned down. A member of staff luckily broke loose from captivity.
The attackers were reportedly dressed in military uniform.
The incident happened barely three days after 21 passengers heading to Minna, capital of Niger State, were abducted in broad daylight.
The passengers have since regained freedom.
Earlier in the week, Governor Bello accused the federal government of abandoning Niger in the quest to secure the release of the captives.
