Abba Kyari blames IPOB as panel recommends demotion

The embattled former Commander of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police, DCP Abba Kyari, has blamed that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) of being architects of his woes.

The drowning “Super Cop” is quoted to have said the secessionist groups were after him due to the onslaught launched against them in the South East.

Kyari made his bizarre claim when he appeared before a probe panel led by Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Joseph Egbunike, according to a report submitted by the panel which is currently available in the media.

The DIG Egbunike’s panel is investigating Kyari for alleged $1 million bribery scandal involving international Internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi, who has been convicted in the United States of America.

He said IPOB and ESN had embarked on a campaign to smear his reputation having “vowed to destroy him”, due to his onslaught against them.

But the panel, which described his claim as watery, found him culpable of fraternising with fraudulent characters, thereby violating the NPF professional ethics and subsequently ordered his demotion from the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

Kyari, currently in detention in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over a 25-kg Cocaine scandal, was indicted for violating the social media policy of the Nigeria Police Force.

On the bribe, allegedly given to Kyari, the SIP said “the evidence of bribe is circumstantial since it was not proven that the bribe was paid into the officer’s account nor was any proceeds of the bribe traced by the panel much less linking the officer to any such proceeds.’’

It would be recalled that the office of the Attorney General of the Federation in his legal advice of the Police report, disclosed that a prima facie case of fraudulent involvement was established against Abba Kyari but that the report was watery and cannot be used in court to nail him.

Following the AGF’s advice, the Police Service Commission (PSC) which had received the Egbunike report, directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to constitute another panel to probe the Kyari bribery scandal.

RELIABLESOURCENG.COM gathered that the force has begun further investigations into Kyari’s alleged involvement/links in money laundering deals of gangs as directed by the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami.
